CEDAR RAPIDS — The Marion Indians have a new Metro dance partner for Rivalry Saturday.
Event director Scot Moenck announced Monday that five matchups have been set for the 15th edition, set for Nov. 24 at Coe College.
The defending Class 4A state champion, Marion has faced Linn-Mar at Rivalry Saturday each of the past four seasons, finally breaking through in a big way last season, 61-16.
Marion and Linn-Mar will not play next season. The Indians (26-0 in 2017-18) will face Cedar Rapids Prairie (16-7).
The Indians rallied to beat Prairie, 58-53, last season. Marion returns two starters (all-stater Kayba Laube and Randi Wright) from its title team, plus five key reserves. Prairie brings back 92 percent of its scoring, and figures to be a 5A preseason top-10 team.
Defending 5A state champion Iowa City West (19-7) will play a Rivalry Saturday rematch with Davenport Assumption (16-9). The Women of Troy beat the Knights, 60-48, at Coe last year, and brings back a strong nucleus led by starters Emma Koch, Lauren Zacharias and Cailyn Morgan.
In other games booked thus far:
— Class 4A semifinalist Center Point-Urbana (22-4) will face Mount Vernon (16-7) in a Wamac Conference inter-divisional contest.
— North Linn (23-1) will face 1A state qualifier Montezuma (20-4), which is led by University of Iowa commit Shateah Wetering, a junior-to-be.
